<p>I was speaking to one of our Peak Performer<br />members for his coaching session, and he&#8217;s had<br />really good results with a marketing strategy I<br />taught him last November.</p>
<p>He put the strategy in motion December 1st,<br />and enrolled 78 new students by February 3rd.</p>
<p>FULL credit where credit is due&#8230;&#8230;.I &#8220;stole&#8221; this<br />idea from Grandmaster Stephen Oliver about 6<br />years ago, and immediately put it to work in my<br />school&#8230;.with great results, and I&#8217;ve been teaching<br />it to our Peak Performer and Inner Circle members<br />ever since.</p>
<p>More credit where it&#8217;s due&#8230;. GREAT work Scott<br />Sutton of Kid Kicks Karate for kicking @$$ and<br />making it happen!</p>
<p>I mention it today because we&#8217;re hosting 3 live<br />meetings in Florida next week, and I&#8217;ll be teaching<br />everyone in attendance this strategy there as well!</p>

<p><strong>Also, Congrats to Mile High Karate&#8217;s</strong><br />
<strong>Amanda and Steve Christensen</strong><br />
with a Fabulous January and,<br />
Sascha &amp; Renee Williams &#8211; not records<br />
but over $50,000 on track to a $1,000,000<br />
Year!</p>
<p>Also,<strong> Congrats to Ultimate MMA</strong><br />
who finally got Certificate of<br />
Occupancy and has HIT THE GROUND<br />
Running with their Kids Program at<br />
their main location!</p>
<p>As discussed in Orlando I&#8217;m looking<br />
forward to us having a bunch of<br />
$1,000,000+ schools with $500,000+<br />
NET for 2012 and beyond.</p>
<p><strong>Michael Marion</strong><br />
Added $6000.00 to his Gross in December and is on<br />
pace to add another $10,000.00 this month.</p>
<p>Nice Work Michael!</p>
<p><strong>Mike Nestor and Chris Cagle </strong><br />
They&#8217;re in the midst of accelerating a new program<br />
&#8220;Launch&#8221; and have done more renewals (ie upgrades)<br />
in the last 2 months than in the previous year.</p>
<p>Nice!</p>
<p><strong>Joe Huntzinger</strong><br />
Made a SIGNIFICANT breakthrough in his &#8220;vision&#8221; into<br />
his business. Since we&#8217;re FORCING everyone to look at<br />
their schools ACTUAL RESULTS (ie. Stats), instead of<br />
trusting their &#8220;gut feeling&#8221;&#8230;..we&#8217;ve identified<br />
where to focus FIRST.</p>
<p>In Joe&#8217;s case, he was surprised at how poor his<br />
&#8220;Info Call&#8221; to &#8220;Appointment Show&#8221; ratio was. He always<br />
felt that his staff was doing a good job handling new<br />
prospective students&#8230;.but the numbers DON&#8217;T LIE&#8230;and<br />
he&#8217;s now on a mission to &#8220;fix&#8221; that issue.</p>
<p>By the way&#8230;.in his case&#8230;.JUST fixing that ONE issue<br />
will mean an additional $5000.00 month to his school this<br />
year!</p>
<p>It takes a LOT OF COURAGE to stare down the barrel of<br />
REALITY, and take appropriate action EVEN WHEN IT&#8217;S NOT<br />
THE &#8220;COMFORTABLE&#8221; thing to do!</p>

<p>I received a letter from a Master Instructor in California 2 days ago (yes, a REAL letter, real paper, real ink &#8211; blue in fact, in REAL handwriting).</p>
<p>First, I was pretty surprised to receive a &#8220;Real&#8221; letter, in today&#8217;s &#8220;texting&#8221; &#8211; Facebooking<br /> &#8211; emailing &#8211; IMing &#8211; tweeting &#8211; skyping world, but I was really shocked by what I read.</p>
<p>This gentleman (who shall remain nameless out of respect for his privacy) ran a school<br /> in central California for 22 years.</p>
<p>He was an 8th Degree Black Belt, Master Instructor, VERY well known and well respected<br /> competitor in his youth, and a highly respected &#8221;master&#8221; in his association.</p>
<p>He described to me how DEEPLY he loves his art and how he dedicated his life to its study.</p>
<p>His art had done so much for him personally that he decided in 1988 to share it with<br /> others and open a school.</p>
<p>In the letter he describes how he felt when he made the decision to open the school, how excited he was and how he felt like he was honoring his seniors, instructors and the 2000 year history of his art buy passing it on to the next generation.</p>
<p>He said: &#8220;<em>I felt like I was going to be taking </em><em>my place amongst the masters and grandmasters of </em><em>the past, and that I&#8217;d be edifying their lives </em><em>by ensuring their legacy lived on into the future.</em>&#8220;</p>
<p>He goes on to describe how he opened his school in a vacant space where a Dance school had once lived, and how he had a big influx of new students when he first opened the doors.</p>
<p>In the first couple weeks, he had 50 students training in the school, and he was making enough money to pay the bills.</p>
<p>The weeks went by, turned into months, then stretched into years, and low and behold, 22 years later, he still had about 50 students training in his school.</p>
<p>He had to take a &#8220;full time&#8221; job working at a local factory making car parts to support his family, pay his mortgage, and help support the school expenses from time to time. (Since the school was only breaking even at best)</p>
<p>So, fast forward 22 years, and instead of being a shinning, enthusiastic, energetic, &#8220;evangelist&#8221; for his art, he now describes himself like this:</p>
<p>&#8220;<em>I was emotionally, physically, mentally and </em><em>financially drained and defeated. In fact, I even felt &#8220;bitter&#8221; that some (less qualified) instructors could be more financially successful than me. I love my art, I</em> <em>loved my students, I loved my school, but it&#8217;s crystal</em> <em>clear to me now, that simply loving it, and working</em> <em>hard just isn&#8217;t enough</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>As you may have guessed, he had to close his school </strong><strong>6 months ago.</strong></p>
<p>After reading his letter (forgive my language) but I started to get really pissed off.</p>
<ul>
<li>YES, the economy had been &#8220;challenging&#8221; over the<br /> past 24 months.</li>
<li>YES, California had been hit particularly hard.</li>
<li>YES, there are &#8220;charlatans&#8221; out there teaching<br /> crappy lessons, and are only trying to make a buck.</li>
<li>YES, the UFC is giving the Martial Arts a &#8220;bad name&#8221;<br /> with the family market.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>HOWEVER:</strong><br /> <strong>MANY&#8230;.MANY&#8230;.MANY Schools are KICKING ASS right now, </strong>and there is NO REASON you can&#8217;t be too!</p>
<p>The <strong>ONLY reason</strong> this man failed in his school is that he simply lacked a couple fundamental skills in running his school &#8211; as a business.</p>
<p>He was a great instructor, a great mentor, and a great role model, but he was missing <strong>3 key fundamentals</strong> that are ESSENTIAL to run a successful school.</p>
<p>Master these fundamentals and you&#8217;ll be successful,  fail to master them, and you&#8217;ll go the way of the <em>do-do </em>sooner or later.</p>

<h2>Could You Be Enrolling More New Students in Your School?</h2>
<p>In order to fill your school with plenty of excited new students, you have to master 2 sets of skill.</p>
<h3>#1 &#8211; Marketing Skills</h3>
<p>You have to impact your market with some message that get&#8217;s them interested in training with you.</p>
<p>This is a HUGE focus for us in our NAPMA programs. In fact, in many cases we&#8217;re able to help school owners generate more traffic, and prospective students into their schools than they previously thought possible. <em>(See the above (early) results from our Kung Fu Panda 2 Promotion)</em></p>
<p>So much, in fact, that many owners find themselves a bit overwhelmed, and if they don&#8217;t have an efficient system for enrolling students (in high volume) can hamstring their growth.</p>
<h3>#2 &#8211; Communication (Sales) Skills</h3>
<p>You MUST have the ability to clearly communicate the VALUE and BENEFITS of training in your program.</p>
<p><strong><em>Doing a lot of &#8220;intros&#8221; isn&#8217;t enough.</em></strong></p>
<p>If you&#8217;re not ENROLLING 80% (or more) of the students who come into your school for an initial Intro, (meaning the prospective student makes a down payment and makes a written agreement to a course of training over a number of months) developing this skill will be a huge benefit for you!</p>
<p><em>(Currently, in our franchise locations, we&#8217;re collecting a $400 initial investment, and students are agreeing to a 12 month program at $197/month.)</em></p>
<h3>Are you enrolling 80% (or more) of your intros?</h3>
<p>If not, and you&#8217;d like to improve your enrollment rates, WITHOUT becoming a &#8220;used car salesman&#8221;&#8230;this is for you!</p>
<p>We&#8217;ve been planning a small HIGH LEVEL sales, leadership and ethical persuasion training event for a few months now.</p>
<p>This was an &#8220;invitation only&#8221; training session for our Peak Performer, Inner Circle and Coaching Members. <p>I typically have the ability to manage my &#8220;state&#8221; and energy pretty well, but the last few days have been a challenge.</p>
<p>I just returned from our &#8220;Financial Power Summit&#8221; in New Jersey where nearly 100 smart Martial Arts School owners gathered to collaborate and take their school to the next level.</p>
<p>IMMEDIATELY following the Financial Power Summit, I hopped on a plane (in fact, my flight was cancelled so I had to catch a flight 3 hours early&#8230;.what a scramble to get there!) and traveled to Las Vegas for a gathering of more than 200 of the TOP Dance, Gymnastics, Cheerleading, and Swim school owners in the nation.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve always valued the opportunity to &#8220;compare&#8221; what&#8217;s working and what&#8217;s not, in our industry, and outside our industry, and this last week was OF IMMENSE VALUE to me and will be to our<br />
members and &#8220;followers&#8221;.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve been RAVENOUSLY studying businesses &#8220;similar&#8221; to ours for MANY years, and studying the habits, behavior, and strategies of the TOP 10%&#8217;ers.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s EXTREMELY easy to WASTE A TON OF TIME on facebook, four square, linked in, myspace, twitter, beebo or any of a thousand other social networks.</p>
<p>Typically, my recommendation had been to STAY AWAY, and spend the same amount of time getting &#8220;belly to belly&#8221; with more prospects.</p>
<p>However, we&#8217;re been vigorously testing social media strategies for years, and have found a few strategies that are producing good<br />
results (and in some cases GREAT results) for very LITTLE time invested.</p>
<p>As you may know, we&#8217;re hosting several 1 day group sessions where we&#8217;ll be revealing a BUNCH of cool, innovative, FREE strategies<br />
to attract new students to your school, most of which take FAR MORE time to explain than we have here, BUT I wanted to give you a couple &#8221;Examples&#8221; of what&#8217;s been working in the &#8220;new media&#8221;!</p>

<p>So, how do you make these social networks &#8220;productive&#8221; without allowing it to suck up all your free time?</p>
<h4>Strategy #1: &#8220;New Student &#8211; Friends&#8221;</h4>
<p>If you&#8217;re students are &#8220;on&#8221; facebook, then it&#8217;s a good bet that a BUNCH of their friends (and family) are &#8220;on&#8221; facebook. (That&#8217;s the whole point)</p>
<p>So it&#8217;s useful to be &#8220;friends&#8221; with all your students on facebook. For new students, just ask them if they are on facebook after you enroll them, for current students, have a contest where the first 50 people to &#8220;Friend&#8221; you get a FREE &#8220;thing&#8221; (private lesson, t-shirt, or some other such &#8220;bonus&#8221; that would motivate them to get in the game!)</p>
<h4>Strategy #2: &#8220;Tagging&#8221;</h4>
<p>Obviously &#8220;friending&#8221; your students when they enroll is quick and easy, and you can keep them in the loop, but how does that help you get &#8220;new&#8221; students??</p>
<p>Well, if you &#8220;tag&#8221; the student with a post from your status update, that will push YOUR message out to THEIR wall for all their friends to see!</p>
<p>This is a GREAT outlet for promoting community outreach events (ie. special seminars, children&#8217;s confidence course, anti abduction class etc&#8230;), you can get these types of posts to go &#8220;viral&#8221;, and get passed around between your friends&#8217; friends (and families)</p>
