Welcome New Students and Create a Sense of Community

Few mistakes are more fatal to the life of your school than taking your students and their parents for granted. Use the information and G.O.L.D. Team development exercises in this report to teach your entire instructional staff how to make students and parents feel special, wanted and appreciated, from their very first class.

Your new-student-welcome procedures are just as important for your relationships with and retention of adult students.

Welcoming new students and creating a sense of community is a fundamental necessity for any martial arts school, and is often the difference between successful and mediocre growth and profitability.

“Kuya” John Bain, Maestro Guro

“For someone who has never practiced Eskrima, I found the curriculum extremely easy to follow and learn. I added the material to my Black Belt program and the students absolutely love it, which has contributed greatly to our summer retention.”
Sensei Tim Rosanelli, Maximum Impact Karate

“I VERY much enjoyed your series! I have recommended it to several instructor friends of mine. I thought the approach was very sound; your explanation of the basic footwork and stick movement was extremely easy to follow; and your communication style is just as appealing.”

    NAPMA NEWS AUGUST 2006
NAPMA To Become Business Information Source for USA National Karate-do Federation Members

NAPMA President Rob Colasanti attended the USA National Karate-do Federation’s National Championships and Team Trials in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, July 14-16, as a special invitee of USA-NKF executive board members.

During the weekend event, Colasanti met with Dr. Julius Thiry, founder and executive director; Tom Burke, president; and Roger Jarrett, secretary general. Their discussions resulted in NAPMA being named the recommended source of business information for USA-NKF members. Colasanti will also be invited to speak at many future USA-NKF events.

As the national governing body for the sport of Karate, the USA-NKF responsibilities include the development and fielding of junior and adult karate athletes, representing the United States, at international events and competitions; service to all membership classes represented on the Board of Directors; and the U.S. representative within the designated International Federation (I.F.), under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.).

NAPMA Welcomes 106 New Members in July!

Melissa Gouley, NAPMA membership director, is pleased to announce that NAPMA enrolled 106 new members during the month of July, which brings the four-month total (April through July) to 318.

“Not only are these numbers phenomenal, but also unprecedented,” said Gouley. “We have researched the nearly 12-year history of NAPMA, and find that there are few periods with comparable enrollment numbers. NAPMA has definitely entered new territory, and we are so happy and proud that so many martial arts professionals want to join us there.”
