Grow Your School With a Black Belt Club
NAPMA has always promoted the benefits of a Black Belt Club for all instructors and especially those who want to grow their schools from a modest size of fewer than 100 students to double or triple that number.
A Black Belt Club can be, and often is, the first upgrade or renewal program of a school that wants to grow. Outwardly, to your students, it is an elite level of training and recognition at your school. For you, it provides the incentive for students to upgrade and renew to multi-year program that will you help you maintain a dynamic, prosperous and growing school. Having a Black Belt Club compels you to implement a Master’s Club, Leadership Training and even more advanced programs. All of which helps you retain more students paying the most tuition. A Black Belt Club is one of those ole’ win-win situations.
This Strategic Report is your call-to-action to either begin a Black Belt Club or to revamp, polish or revitalize the one you have already.

[Editor’s Note: On the day this NAPMA E-News was distributed, NAPMA was finalizing the last technical steps and testing of the new Web site. Please continue to check napma.com for your first visit to the new NAPMA Web site: The digital age of martial arts information starts here! All indications are that the site will be live on or before March 1, 2007.]
NAPMA’s newly revised Web site features an expanded members-only section with a great selection of free downloads—that will only continue to grow!
Members can select from three categories of NAPMA educational and marketing support materials. The Black Belt Reports section contains PDFs of reports that are fundamental to the successful operation of almost any school. Members can also download PDFs of a number of motivational posters that are complete and ready to be printed.
The martial arts style section offers 11 different ad concepts, such as Aikido, Kung Fu and Kickboxing, in three different ad sizes; the largest of which can also be used as a flyer. The Microsoft Publisher files are small enough that most computers can download them quickly, depending on the level of Internet service.
These materials will be updated, regularly, and new materials will be introduced during future, phased upgrades of the Web site. |

NAPMA NOW Reports: Improving Your
Schools Today for a Successful Tomorrow |
|
|
|
| |
1.The Black Belt Management Report for April is “How To ‘Schedule’ Your School’s Growth.” It complements the information in this month’s Sounds of Success CD interview with Tommy Lee, since a schedule may be one of the most important school-growth tools for members with 50 to 150 students who want to grow to 300 students.
2.The sixth installment of NAPMA’s Edge Mixed Martial Arts Program is “Attacks from the Side-Control Position.” Terry Riggs presents a series of drills, with enough variations and options, for more than one Mixed Martial Arts lesson.
3.April’s G.O.L.D. Team Leadership Report is filled with more important ideas and challenges from Tom Callos to share with your G.O.L.D. Leadership Team. “Five Tips For Better Teaching, an Acts of Kindness Challenge, and Some Cool Leadership Resources” includes a list of teaching tips; a Kindness Day contest for your leadership team members to log the most acts of kindness from sunup to sundown; and four Web sites with new information to open your mind and those of your leadership team members, and improve the classroom experience for your students.
4. Words of the Week shines the spotlight on the word “Trust” this month. NAPMA member Solomon Brenner first presents the concept of self-trust, which can often be a barrier to a student’s goals. Self-trust is having the confidence to defend your decisions and follow your instincts with an “I Can” attitude.
Remember, it
only takes one good idea from NAPMA NOW
to pay your NAPMA tuition for a
lifetime! |

From 50 to 300 Students...and Other School-Growth Ideas, Part I, with Tommy Lee
Many school owners operate small schools with 50 to 150 students, and they share a common challenge: “How exactly do I grow my school well beyond my current number of students? What are the specific steps that will help me increase my student count so dramatically, from 50 to 100, to 150, to 200, to 300?”
That’s why Tommy Lee is the guest on the April and May Sounds of Success CD, a two-hour interview. As a successful school owner and author, speaker and martial arts business consultant, with 30 years in the industry, he has developed winning strategies and tactics to grow your schools from “50 to 300 students.”
The interview focuses on specific methods for each level of growth, from 50 to 100, to 150, etc., because the best ways to grow from 50 to 100 students may not be the best ways to grow from 200 to 300. Look for Part 2 of the Tommy Lee interview on the May Sounds of Success CD. |

The Power of Organization Is the Power to Grow
To grow your martial arts business, you need power; and the February NAPMA Squared Package is like a power-packed, “strategic” battery, ready to give you and your school the jolt you need to start you thinking and move forward.
Stephen Oliver uses the DVD and accompanying N2 Action Plan to address this package’s theme, “The Power of Organization.” Master Oliver states that “the martial arts is a very simple business: enrollments, retention and renewals.” Master Oliver then adds to Master Smith’s comments on the importance and power of statistics. The final portion of the CD features an assortment of strategies and ideas from Master Oliver.
On Audio CD #1 and in the accompanying N2 Action Plan, Master Jeff Smith emphasizes why “Establishing Goals and Developing a Plan for Growth” is so important. He explains that the plan you create to reach your specific revenue goal must be approached exactly as you teach your students about big goals: plan for and work toward small, incremental goals. Master Smith also explains why keeping good statistics is a strategic necessity if you want to grow your school. |
|
|
|
|
|
The second part of the accompanying N2 Action Plan features Stephen Oliver’s presentation, “The Power of Organization: Hobby vs. Career.” He comments on the new era of martial arts and why martial arts may be at the top of the list of industries with the greatest potential. The winning strategy is to be able to separate martial arts, your hobby, from martial arts, your business.
Audio CD #2 and accompanying N2 Action Plan, “Expand Your Thinking and Open Your Mind to Grow Your School,” also features Master Jeff Smith. As he states in the Action Plan, “The opened-minded school owner avoids all the preconceived ideas about why schools become stuck at a mediocre level of revenue, and that negative attitude, “I’ve already tried that and it didn’t work.” Master Smith points the way with a continuing education strategy that will help to change your mindset. He also includes a different approach to an after-school program as an example of expanded thinking.
