Q: What is NAPMA?
NAPMA, the National Association of Professional Martial Artists, is a martial arts marketing, continuing education, networking and support association for martial arts schools and clubs worldwide. It is the largest such association in the world, with members in more than 20 countries.
NAPMA is proud of its diverse membership—from new instructors and newly opened schools to well-established school owners; part-time instructors with a few classes a week as well as school owners with multiple locations and hundreds of students; and instructors of many arts, languages and cultures. Professional martial artists of any style, background or affiliation are welcomed to join NAPMA.
NAPMA’s professional staff serves its members through a number of membership opportunities and a complement of member benefits and support programs.
NAPMA’s mission is to increase dramatically the number of people participating in quality martial arts programs worldwide.
NAPMA’s goal is to help its members create the futures they envision for themselves, their schools and their families.
NAPMA’s purpose is to lead the industry into a future of greater recognition by the public of the martial arts’ role in developing children into leaders and positive adult role models; to help members improve staff training and develop school ownership and career opportunities; and promote local schools as community support and self-defense learning centers.

Q: How is NAPMA organized?
A: NAPMA is a U.S. corporation, operating from offices in Clearwater, Florida, where a full-time, professional staff serves its members. Led by President Rob Colasanti, NAPMA is organized into five services teams. (Click here to view the Key Staff page.)
Member Services: A staff of member service professionals, managed by Melissa Gouley, helps members with orders, address changes, billing and shipping issues and general assistance. The member services staff also talks with martial arts instructors and school owners throughout the industry to introduce them to the benefits of a NAPMA membership and its products. Qualified members of staff also serve as consultants, helping members with enrollment, retention, tuition, staff development, marketing and operations challenges.
Operation Services: As operations manager, Melissa Gouley supervises an administrative team that provide equally important services, including administrative support, data management, human resources and financial/bookkeeping. The NAPMA fulfillment center is also a part of Operation Services. That staff assembles, processes and ships all membership packages and product orders to all members, domestic and international, and the bi-monthly NAPMA Squared Package. The fulfillment center crew also maintains a comprehensive inventory of past NAPMA and NAPMA Squared Packages, the NAPMA product line and a video training library with hundreds of segments. The staff processes and ships new member start-up kits and product orders every day.
Audio/Video Production Services: NAPMA maintains a professionally equipped video production/editing facility in its offices, managed by Mark Graden. He is able to shoot broadcast- quality video on location for original productions as well as edit a variety of audio and video programs distributed to members. Every month, Mark works with Rob Colasanti to select, edit and prepare the Sounds of Success CD and the NAPMA Innovations DVD, two of NAPMA’s most popular educational programs in the NAPMA Professional Package. Mark also edits and prepares audio and video segments for the NAPMA Squared Package. Additionally, Mark confers with martial arts instructors who want to develop video training series or curriculum programs, ventures in which NAPMA may become a production, marketing and fulfillment partner.
Creative Services: Bob Sillick coordinates a staff of graphic designers and Web specialists whose primary responsibilities is the monthly NAPMA Professional Package, Martial Arts Professional magazine, NAPMA eNews and content management of the NAPMA Web site. The staff also produces the bi-monthly NAPMA Squared Package as well as many NAPMA marketing projects and NAPMA products and packaging. Bob works closely with Rob Colasanti to plan and create the content for the enormous amount of educational and marketing support materials NAPMA produces and distributes every month.
Consulting Services: A special team, integral to outstanding member support, is the NAPMA School Support Network (NSSN). The network consists of NAPMA-member volunteers from across the U.S., who are available to consult with other members on any issue or challenge that may be an obstacle to growth and success.
